Self care tips Q & A: Ways to feel your absolute best

How do you unwind after a long day?

Ashley: I’m always on the go, or painting, or planning photoshoots, or just participating in loads of creative things….every day is different. So when I get home, I love to pour a glass of wine and cuddle up with a good book or journal about my day. I’m always reading; It helps me to be off of my phone for at least an hour a day. I read loads of self help books as well as fiction, they really have helped me just unwind and relax. Journaling is also something I’ve been doing a lot lately that helps me get in my feelings after a long good day or long horrible day.

What advice do you have others when it comes to self-care?

Ashley: I’m HUGE on self care. I probably talk about it way too much with friends but it’s so important to just give yourself and your body time to relax, unwind and reset. I would say what I say to my friends. Take a walk, be with nature, pay attention to the little details of everyday things and live in the moment. Do things that you love. Life is too short to just keep going without having that time to yourself to reset and refocus on what really matters.

If you could go back and give your younger self advice, what would it be and why?

Ashley: The older I get and moments that I look back on that actually mean something, I realize I’m surrounded by friends or ones I love so if I could go back and tell my younger self to….. always be open to new friends and don’t be afraid to let go of the toxic ones that suck all of the energy out of your light. Even if you’ve known them for years, it’s not worth the mental breakdowns they cause you in the future. Don’t worry about finding your true friends they come later in life. Just be 100% you and don’t try to bend yourself into a small box to fit in.

What does self-care mean to you?

Cathie: Self care to me means learning how to take care of not only your body but your mind and soul as well. Do something that makes you feel AMAZING! Read a book. Pamper yourself. Go on a hike. Drink a cup of coffee at a coffee shop and just people watch. Write in your journal. Draw. Drive to the beach and just stare at the ocean with your best friends. We do so much every day and sometimes we forgot to unwind and just stand still. There’s so much going on in anyone’s life so it’s nice to just take a breath every once in awhile.

What is your favorite type of self-care?

Cathie: My favorite type of self care is waking up in the morning and making a cup of black coffee while listening to some music. Then throwing on a oversized sweatshirt and heading to the beach. I can listen to the waves for hours.
