Isn’t strange to think Cosabella’s celebrated its 28th birthday this June and while this July marks the 65th birthday of the 2 two piece bikini, that’s 65 years of the itty bitty tiny polka dot bikini. Just 37 years Cosabella’s senior, just think what we’ll be wearing to the beach 65 years from now.
The two piece bikini made its début July 5, 1946 at the Piscine Molitor pool in Paris, France. French fashion designers Louis Reard and Jacques Heim reportedly paid Parisian exotic dancer Micheline Bernardini to wear his innovated new design a g string back made out of only 30 square inches of fabric to the popular Persian swimming pool. Named after Bikini Atoll in the Pacific, a site where nuclear weapon testing had occurred. Réard’s reasoning for naming the bikini after this site is the excitement his new design would produce would be as powerful as a nuclear device and the rest is historyMicheline Bernardini in the first bikini
